Any owner of a multi-element directional antenna who previously used a simple vertical or dipole will confirm that the difference between the two types of antennas is enormous. In bands starting at 14 MHz, directional antennas are relatively common. In the lower bands, however, such an antenna requires a great deal of space, so owning one is more of an exception than the norm. The OM0A team will be among these exceptional stations that will have a directional antenna—a 2-element Moxon antenna—on the 40-meter band.
The Moxon antenna is characterized by its compact size, favorable impedance at the feed point, and high front-to-back ratio. For the 40-meter band, it covers an area of 15.6 meters by 5.6 meters. You can find inspiration for the design at http://www.dj5mw.de/Antennas/Moxon.htm. Our design will also use telescopic fiberglass poles according to the DJ5MW instructions. The antenna should be mounted at a height of approximately 16 m on a new mast.
