Since 2005, Slovakia has hosted the only VHF contest in August that focuses on low power or even QRP operations: the OM VHF LOW POWER Contest. The Alpe Adria Contest, OK QRP Contest, and other contests take place around the same time. So mark August 6, 2023, on your calendar!

The advantage is that summer is usually ideal for portable operations, and locations that are “reserved” in subregional contests, for example, become available to other radio amateurs as well. Another plus is that the level of interference tends to be lower due to the lower power output.
Depending on the weather and my options, I’ll consider either Černecký vrch (JN88RS) or Veľká Javorina (JN88UU), though with a smaller antenna system. We’ll see. I look forward to seeing you all!
