Good reception is the key to 160m
The SSB section of the CQWW 160m contest was an excellent opportunity to test an inverted L antenna on 160m and, at the same time, to raise the profile of the OM0A call sign on the shortwave airwaves. The top band is primarily the domain of high-power operators and massive antenna systems. Under the call sign OM0A, however, I managed to make 157 complete contacts to 32 countries. OM0A was also worked by N2KBP.
In addition to contesting, I took notes on propagation and openings to various parts of the world. The following audio recordings give an idea of what the CQWW 160m contest sounded like: EA8AH, a heavily interfered signal from EC1KR, a call from GI5K, GZ5Y in contact with OZ and SP, LN9Z with heavy interference, and Oliver MW0JRX
