The opening photo shows me at the end of winter. At that time, I had no idea that OM3WAO would lead me to amateur radio. From my early days with direct-mix receivers, I became hooked not only on the technology but especially on amateur radio contests, including the SSB League.
When favorable propagation conditions combine with higher participation, it’s possible to make over 100 contacts in an hour during the SSB League. Milan OM2KI reports 119 contacts in a single hour. Hats off—a masterful result!

With a Yaesu FT-1000MP TCVR, an Inrad roofing filter, and a smaller 250–300W PA connected to an inverted V antenna on an RDM-12 mast, things went very well. It seems that the SSB League is expanding into new districts. Stations that were active in the SSB League for the full two hours reported nearly 90 districts!
