Dates when the SSB League coincides with VHF contests add some variety. The May round was no exception, as it fell on the date of the 2nd VHF subregional contest.
I started by calling on 3701 kHz. I couldn’t go any lower because there’s a Polish station on 3699 kHz. According to the SDR, however, the contest segment isn’t overcrowded. Stations from shorter distances come through weakly, but those from eastern Slovakia come through very well. For example, Ferko OM8TA / OM3KWM:
For comparison, here’s Ferda OM5ZX’s signal:
Thanks to a very good inverted-V antenna and 250W from the power amplifier, the pace is good. After twenty minutes, I start SO2V by tuning up. Even if no one answers the call, it’s a way to add more contacts. In the meantime, Edo OM3EY calls, for example:
Edo is a top-notch DXer and contester. From the Bánovce nad Bebravou district, OM3KEG is regularly operated by Miki OM3THX, who, however, has been struggling with interference for a long time and therefore can’t hear some stations.
I assume that due to VHF activities, Števo OM7KW, Jirka OK1DEZ, Milan OM2KI, and others did not participate in the SSB League. I managed to make 92 contacts in 63 districts during one hour of operation.
