I started the OM Activity Contest with a Diamond W-8010 antenna, but for the September and October rounds, I switched to an inverted Vee antenna mounted on an RDM-12 mast. And it made a difference. I won the first of these rounds in the QRO/SSB category, and I finished third in the second.

However, the year-end results for the OM Activity Contest are compiled from the nine best results of the given year. Here’s how the points were tallied:

The January, June, and August rounds were not included in the year-long evaluation. The resulting 15,594 points were enough for ninth place out of sixty-nine stations in this category.

The second contest, which takes place every month, is the VHF Operational Activity, or VHF PA for short. I didn’t start participating in this until the spring months. My first attempt in April’s VKV PA yielded 1,656 points, which was the lowest point total. The May, June, and July rounds produced better results. The result in August was weaker, but the fall rounds (September and October) yielded good results.

A total of 22,006 points was enough for eighth place out of eighty-four stations.
