I’ve been involved in amateur radio for over twenty-five years, primarily in building equipment and participating in contests. I started out in CB radio, where, as a member of the K120 team, I “froze my butt off” on dozens of expeditions through the Tatra Mountains—but it paid off with victories in the Portable League and other contests. At that time, I was actively involved in the 11-meter band.
Since 2003, I have regularly participated in amateur radio contests, first on my own on VHF, and later with the OM3RKP club, also on VHF. Since gaining access to the HF band, I have focused exclusively on this area, primarily on contesting (CQWW, IARU HF, SSB League, OMAC, and others).
In 2005, I won the 1st Subregional Contest on VHF. In the 2007 CQWW SSB Contest, I took first place in Wales as part of the MW5W team. In the 2007–08 OM Activity Contest, I placed second in the SSB QRO category. In the 2008 UBA Contest, I placed 5th in the A80LP category, and in the HA DX Contest, I placed 4th in the 80m SSB High category. I’ll have to wait a little longer for confirmation of this year’s other results.
