October is the last round of the VKV PA. I put it on AirScout with link to wtKST. This allows you to monitor the capabilities of the airplane scatter (contacts by bouncing off aircraft) directly in the list of stations connected to KST chat.

Airplane scatter – contacts by bouncing off aircraft

This wtKST feature is unique. If you see a purple bubble in the AS column, so an airplane scatter should be possible even at a given moment. The size of the bubble also determines the quality, or. probability of reflection. If the bubble is red with the addition of a number, so an airplane scatter will be possible for a given number of minutes. Brown / orange means, that the plane is on the route, but its height is low.

Temperature inversion

October mornings in Ivanovce with altitude 200 meters are cold. The thermometer shows 0° C at eight o'clock, but the sun shines. The beginning of Horná Suča where I am heading is on the hill and here the thermometer shows + 3 ° C. However, the village descends into the valley, where the temperature drops again to freezing. It is located at the other end of Horná Súča Vlčí vrch with altitude above 600 meters. Here the thermometer shows again + 3 ° C. This confirms the temperature inversion.

Reliable power supply is the basis: power generator

I put the Yagi antenna YU7EF on the mast already in relatively pleasant weather. Twenty minutes before the start of the VKV PA I start the power generator. She jumped for the first time! Right at the beginning, however, I get bad references to the signal. Either unstable or tuned. So I'm changing the radio from R2CW with an amplifier to Kenwood TR-751E with a power of 25W.

Of course, such exchanges will take some time. To make matters worse, so forty minutes after the start, the generator went silent. Attempts to restart have failed. It was clear, that a laptop with a battery will not last until the end of the race. I still had a commonly used netbook in reserve, which I quickly preconfigured.

Watching an airplane scatter turned out to be a great thing. Sorry, the connection with YU1LA, which we have tried repeatedly. One of the attempts would probably work - the YU1LA signal was significantly stronger, but Ivan took the other two OM stations and then the reflection disappeared.

My activity also caught the attention of the locals, so in addition to the connections, I explained for about twenty minutes what the radio amateurs do and what the sounds are., which to hear from the radio station.

Of course, the battery in the laptop did not last until the end and after the connection number 59 off. So I switched to a netbook, where I virtually edited the broadcast numbers. However, I did not have the opportunity to check back, whether I have already worked with the station or not. It was not very comfortable, but until the end of the VKV PA, about twenty minutes remained. Well inadvertently the battery in the netbook was also discharged, so it turned off about five minutes before the end.

OM8OM added a rare KN09 locator

The final summary of the connection stopped at the number 66 and 17 locator squares. Jan's activity was pleasing OM8OM, which was heard from the KN09AC. One of the locator squares in the Czech Republic is missing, JO60. Apparently he was reachable, but it, that it is not in the logo escaped my attention.

VKV PA has the advantage of doing so, that every month it is possible to improve and innovate something. I'm excited, that there is still room for improvement!
